BlogFriends is closed. *RIP*

I was checking my facebook today and was looking for BlogFriends, the infamous blog sharing/network/discovery facebook program developed by i-Together , and found that it has been closed.

A couple of reasons :-

  1. Original seed funding was not enough to cover the expenses needed to maintain the system. Blogfriends was pretty popular with 27,000 users subscribed to it. According to the originators, it’s very complex behind the scenes although it looked simple from the UI perspective (great job!!!).
  2. Frequent changes of Facebook specifications has made things all the more harder for the team to maintain it.

Personally, I find BlogFriends to be a great blog discovery tool. The social element of it is pretty unique. It is a social network for blogs, and it implicitly connects individuals through blog exchanges. Blogrolls can only gain so much on extending relationship or exposing “weak ties“. During this time, I have managed to discover a few other blogs through it, and I believe the concept of BlogFriends is very useful in an enterprise.

Adios, BlogFriends, and thanks for all your hard work. I am one of your fans.

Maybe one of us Web 2.0 nuts out there will pick up your legacy someday.
